Denim has been around for ages, and it was originally invented for blue-collar workers in factories because their pants would rip so often! The jean was brought out because of its durability and the fact that they were comfortable and rarely ever ripped! Decades later, the jean is now the ultimate fashion staple. There isn’t one person that doesn’t have at least one pair of jeans in their closet. So what’s the 411 on denim for 2008? Read on to find out!

A few months ago, I wrote an article about skinny jeans and how they were slowly getting replaced by wide-leg jeans and high-waist jeans. To my surprise, there was an uproar about the article – people were getting really mad about the fact that I said skinny jeans were out! Well guess what? Skinny jeans are actually the least popular of the jean styles according to Lisa Noble, director of denim design at 7 For Mankind! According to her research, 46% of people prefer boot cut, 35% prefer wide-leg, 12% prefer straight leg and last but not least, 7% for skinny jeans! So to all of you who still think skinny jeans are the it jean this season -think again!

So how can you know you’re getting the best fit when shopping for jeans? Well the first rule of thumb is to allow yourself at least 45 minutes to an hour to shop for a good pair of jeans. Make sure you try out at least 5-6 pairs before deciding. Buying jeans in a rush is a big no-no, and they’re ll just end up in the back of your closet never to be seen again. A good rule when trying on jeans is to remember that jeans should have a flatteringly tight fit from waist to the knees, and never forget that denim will always stretch!

This season, we see a lot of different styles including the high-waist jeans, which makes your abs look amazing. Wear them with a tucked-in shirt for that elegant look. Also hot this season is J Brand jeans who is hoping their new jean will be the it denim this season. Their “Suzuki” jean is a low-rise, skinny motorcycle pencil-leg with side knee-patch detail. Both Kate Moss and Angelina Jolie wear them.

Also hot this season is distressed denim since it is the best transition from day to night. Last but not least, you always have to follow the rules of fashion proportion when accessorizing denim. So long jeans go with heels and miniskirts go with flats!
