DIY Pedicure

Posted on May 1st, 2008 in Nail Care by Aniela

Since I wrote about manicures yesterday, I thought it would be a good idea to follow up with something about pedicures…mainly do-it-yourself pedicures. Unlike my hate for doing manicures, I actually love doing pedicures because I’m not so horrible at it. So here is the foolproof way to doing your own pedicure. Oh and you can refer back to my previous post to see all the tools you’ll be needing.

Nail Myth of the Month

Posted on April 30th, 2008 in Nail Care by Aniela

Since I just wrote a post about manicures, I thought it would be appropriate to let all of you guys in on a little secret. There are always people telling you left and right what products to use, and how to use them, but you can’t always trust that!

So here’s a myth for everyone out there! When someone tells you that using cuticle oil or Vaseline will ensure a faster drying time, its NOT TRUE!

If there is one thing that I hate more than anything is doing my nails. I am downright horrible at it, not to mention that I can’t upkeep them for the life of me. That’s why I never really bother with my nails that much, especially since I’m an avid nail bitter. I know it’s embarrassing, but I’m trying my best not to do that anymore. So far, I’m having little luck but it’s hard!

Nail Polish Secret

If you’re one of those people that absolutely hate it when your nail polish chips or when your polish just doesn’t want to stay on…then this is the read for you!

When applying nail polish, you need to “wrap” it. “Wrapping” the nail polish means wrapping the actual polish over and slightly under the nail’s front edge to help prevent chipping.

Do this precisely with the iron and calcium fortified Maybelline New York Salon Expert Nail Color and its exclusive curved-precision brush.

Fall Nail Colors

Posted on October 2nd, 2007 in Nail Care by Aniela

This fall, it’s all about being dramatic, but subtle at the same time. So what’s the hottest nail polish color this fall?

It’s all about purple! Dark, regal colors give an air of sophistication and maturity, but also sexiness and fun, so bring out the purples!

Although darker colors can make your nails appear shorter, you can stick to a lighter shade of purple, such as a lilac, but overall try to keep it on the dark side!nail polish

Blue: The Nail Polish Hue

Posted on August 2nd, 2007 in Nail Care by Aniela

This season, it’s all about darker nail polish hues, and blue is at the top of the list along with some classic colors such as red and deep purple. Navy blues as well as midnight blues are very popular this season and they go great with any white or navy outfit.

Although blue nail polishes will make your nails seem a little shorter, you can file your nails to give off the impression of longer, more polished nails. File your nails so that the sides are square and the tip is more rounded. This will give your nails a cleaner, more polished look.

Get the Perfect Manicure

Getting the perfect manicure can be a bit nerve wrecking, especially if you’re willing to do it yourself. The nail polish color never matches your outfits, and you always find yourself with chipped polish.

The answer? Simple. Use an off-white nail color on both your nails as well as your toe nails. It looks extremely elegant, it won’t chip off that easily (just make sure to use a base and top coat), and it just looks perfect.

How to Prevent Hangnails

Posted on June 21st, 2007 in Nail Care by Aniela

Hangnails are tiny pieces of skin that are still attached to the base or the side of the nail and here is how to prevent them. They are usually caused by dried cuticles, so follow these simple steps on how to prevent hangnails.

1. Don’t pick at the cuticles. Leave them alone, as it will only cause more pain as well as discomfort.

2. Start using a cuticle oil/cream and massage it on a regular basis around your cuticles. This will help keep your cuticles moisturized and supple.
