How to Cure Dry, Winter Skin

Posted on December 10th, 2007 in Skin Care by Aniela

During the winter, our skin tends to be a lot more dry than during any other season. And that is because of the cold of course. Our skin needs to stay moisturized at all times- or else you’ll feel like a dried up lizard. So how can you ensure that your skin stays moisturized at all times in the winter?

Exfoliate

You can’t start treating your skin to moisture until it is properly exfoliated. Exfoliating means getting rid of all the dead skin cells on your skin. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub all over your body. Slough off dead skin by gently scrubbing in circular motions, especially on dry parts such as knees, elbows, and heels.

Lock in the Moisture

To make sure you lock in that moisture, you must apply the best moisturizer you can find all over your body. But, here’s the trick: you must do this within minutes after getting out of the shower or bath. If you wait too long, the moisture won’t lock in as it would when your skin is damp. This will absorb the moisture a lot faster and make sure it stays like that.

Re-Apply

Re-moisturize when you need to do so. It is recommended that you moisturize all over our body before going to bed. That means your skin, hands, legs, feet and arms. If your hands and feet are extra dry you can purchase manicure and pedicure sets that come with socks and mitts that you can put on feet and hands after moisturizing to make sure the moisture stays locked in. And sleep on it until the morning!

Prepare Yourself

When leaving the house, make sure you have a few things handy in case your skin gets thirsty and you feel that winter itch coming. A good face moisturizer is also crucial. And also, have a small tube of hand lotion with you to reapply every few hours.

Protect Yourself

Protect yourself this winter by avoiding a few culprits that get your skin dry. Wear a scarf, gloves, and whatever else you can to protect yourself from the harsh winter winds. Try not to surround yourself in a smoky or polluted environment, which is one of the worst things for your skin as it dries up really fast.lotion
