Papaya Seeds for Hair Growth
First off, you'll need a ripe (but not too ripe) papaya fruit. This tropical fruit can be found at your local grocery store, and depending on the season, can be cheap or a little more expensive. In either case, you can extract a good amount of seeds from just one papaya! And don't forget to also consume the fruit after you've taken out the seeds – papayas are extremely healthy!
Step 1:
Scoop out the seeds from the papaya and rinse them in a strainer. Make sure to remove any remaining pulp.
Step 2:
Lay the seeds onto a tea towel and place them somewhere to dry. Outdoors in the sun would be best! If you have a dehydrator, you can also place the seeds in the dehydrator to dry.
Step 3:
Once the seeds have dried, it's time to turn them into powder! You can break up the seeds either by using a mortar and pestle or by grinding them in a cover or spice grinder.
Step 4:
Add the papaya seeds powder to your favorite shampoo (preferably a natural shampoo) and shake the bottle well. Wash your hair as you normally would. Be sure to shake the bottle up before every use as the powder might settle at the bottom.
There you have it! It's easy to do, and the results will astonish you! Shampoo your hair as often or as rarely as you usually do and wash your hair normally. Within just a few weeks, you'll notice stronger, healthier, and longer hair. Because of the papain enzyme, the hair follicles will strengthen which in turn will make the hair grow faster.

Is anyone try this ??
how many weeks are we talking ,before growing my hair
It’s very hard to say as it completely depends on your own hair and the rate at which it grows. As with any natural hair growth treatment, we recommend being persistent for at least a month and then see how it goes from there! Let us know how it works out for you 🙂
can I mix dried papaya seed inside my hair cream… for longer use.
Hi Cathy!
Yes, you absolutely can! Papaya seeds encourage hair growth as well as overall hair health. Just be sure to grind them into a fine powder first 🙂

Yes you should be able to 🙂
Hello, i have tired this diy and it works amazing!!! I have a question, for how long can we store the unused papaya seed poweder?
Thank you for this awsome remedy.
Stay blessed.
Hi Seerat! Thank you for your feedback, and we’re so happy to hear that you like this remedy! Once the papaya seeds are dried and powdered, they will last for a very long time! Just be sure to store in a cool, dark place, just like you would any other spice such as pepper 🙂
Hi,
can we mix the grinded seeds with water
Hi there!
Mix the seeds with water how? The best way to use them would be to add them to your shampoo or conditioner.
Can i add this to my conditioner?
Hi Ella,
Yes, you can definitely add the papaya seeds to your conditioner, shampoo, or any other hair product. Papaya seeds benefits are really endless 😀
is it safe to eat papaya seeds?
Hi there,
Yes, it’s safe to eat papaya seeds, but don’t eat too many, as it can cause stomach problems.
do you have to grind the papaya seeds before?
Hi Stacey,
Yes, it’s important that you grind the papaya seeds, otherwise they’ll just be sitting there loose. By grinding them, you are incorporating them into the mixture.
this worked for me! I ground up the papaya seeds really really well and I added them to my conditioner. I leave the conditioner on for for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it right out. It’s made my hair stronger and it started to grow faster too!!
So glad it works for you Calliope 🙂
Bcs of my kind of hair #dandrufhair I washes my hair every morning otherwise it itches me so bad and to avoid scratching which will lead to bleeding, I now wash it everyday. I don’t make hair bcs of dandruff and also breakage too, I keep low cut but I love to have good natural hair like some females. So seeing this ur process, I have dried the papaya seed and even blend to powder! Now my question is ?
How many times a week am I supposed to use it to wash my hair now? Please reply
Thank you
Hi Joy,
I would suggest washing your hair every other day. Washing your hair every single day is actually too much, which can lead to dryness, and therefore lead to an itchy scalp. When we wash our hair often, it strips away the hair’s natural oils, which keeps it hydrated. My advice for you would be to use a natural shampoo with the papaya seed powder in it, every other day. Before you wash your hair, you should also massage a little coconut oil into the scalp to prevent flakes and itchiness.
And again the hair can be on low cut for even up to 3-4 years without growing any inch I mean without any inch at all but instead it breaks very well
The last time I cut this hair was 2018 and till date it’s still low, no movement. So you see the problem I have?
God bless you for that Aniela M
That means I have been making mistake all this while! I will try and endure the daily itching for the days I wouldn’t wash
(BUT YOU DIDN’T TELL ME HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK OR IN A MONTH SHOULD I USE IT ON MY HAIR)
I USE TEA TREE MOISTURISING SHAMPOO”
THE COCONUT MASSAGE, SHOULD I USE THAT ONE DAILY BEFORE COMBING MY HAIR EVERY MORNING OR ANY TIME I WASH WITH THE MIXTURE?
PLEASE TELL ME QUICKLY…. I CANT WAIT TO START USING THIS PRODUCT ON MY HAIR
Hi Joy,
If you’re adding the papaya seeds to your shampoo or conditioner, just use it as often as you wash your hair. So if you wash your hair every other day, use it every other day. Keep using it on a regular basis for several months until you start to see your hair getting healthier.
The coconut oil, you should massage that into your scalp every time before you wash your hair for about a month or two. Be sure to leave it on your scalp for 15-20 minutes, and then shampoo and condition as usual.
Can I mix the powder in my hair pack? Will it help in re growth of hair ?
Hi Ria,
Yes, you absolutely can! You can add it to your hair masks, shampoo, or conditioner. With regular and continued use, it can encourage hair growth and strength.
Did this last weekend and it was pretty easy!! Still waiting to see results, but I think it may take some time. Thx for sharing!
Can this be used for dogs also in their shampoo?
Hi Maria,
I’m sorry, unfortunately I cannot advise whether or not this would be safe for dogs. I would do a little research first, or maybe even ask your vet to be sure.
Please I have low porosity natural hair
Very dry itchy scalp #dandruf is really disturbing me
So I want to know if this papaya seed powder will be good for my kind of hair porosity as low porosity doesn’t need anything containing protein????
Hi Onu Juy,
I really don’t see why it wouldn’t, but it may take some time. If you’re going to try this, be persistent with it and use it for at least a month. I would also suggest tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar. They’re both great natural remedies to treat a dry, itchy scalp as well as dandruff. You can add tea tree oil to any hair mask or just rub a few drops into your scalp every night before bed. Use the apple cider vinegar as a rinse every time you wash your hair.
Please can I use both the papaya fruit and seeds as a deep conditioner and can I also mixed both to my hair cream and be applied to my low porosity hair?
Hello ….m fed up now ….I m using shampoo daily due to itchiness from dandruff n now my hair is less than earlier n it’s so dry now….m so stressed now ….I don’t want baldness….I want to know what should I do…plz help
Yes
I don’t have access to the seeds. I only have the leaves. Please can I use the leaves/juice and how should I go about it?
Great recipe. Although I would suggest to blend/infuse it into an oil and use it. It works much better. My oil of choice is castor oil. you can blend up to 40% cold pressed coconut oil of weight of the castor oil for added benefits and also if you want to add more ingredients and want to increase the volume of the oil base.
Great idea!!
Thanks for this
But please can it work on Nigerian hair
Virgin hair to be precise
How much powder do we add to the shampoo?
