While getting your much needed zzzs, why not do double duty and pamper your body as well? Nightime is the BEST time to apply lotions, potions, and creams to your skin and hair because you're not being exposed to the elements such as the sun, the outdoor air, or the wind. This “downtime” allows for everything to penetrate much better, leaving you with a beautiful, healthy complexion and shiny hair in the morning! So here are some amazing overnight beauty tricks for waking up gorgeous!
Overnight Beauty Tricks
#1. Antioxidants
While sleeping with a face mask may seem uncomfortable, it's actually not so bad if you use the correct masks! Something as thick and messy as a honey mask is obviously a bad idea, but a light, non-greasy mask is perfect! While you can certainly slather on a vitamin C rich and antioxidant store-bought cream, I recommend just cutting up a tomato in half and gliding it along your face. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes (until it dries), and go to bed! Tomatoes have amazing antioxidant properties, they reduce blackheads, dark spots, and de-puff the eye area.
#2. Wrap Wet Hair
One of the worst things you can do for your hair is sleep on it wet. When hair is wet, it gets tangled while you toss and turn at night, breaking it, and making your strands frizzy. Instead, wrap a tee-shirt towel on your hand, making sure that you don't use a regular bath towel. Bath towels will just pull at your strands.
#3. Get a Humidifier
Collagen production can actually reduce by 25% while we sleep! That means that your skin loses moisture and why you might wake up feeling super dry. Get yourself a humidifier and see the benefits immediately – softer skin, better sleep, more hydration!
#4. Overnight Hair Mask
The BEST time to moisturize and fix your hair is while you sleep. So don't be afraid to slather on coconut oil, argan oil, or best of all – castor oil before bed. Leave it on overnight and wash out in the morning. While you sleep, your hair and scalp will absorb all that wonderful moisture leaving you with soft, healthy, silky strands.
#5. De-Puff
Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on expensive eye creams that might not even work, take this cue from Hollywood! Most stars sleep with 2 pillows under their heads! Why? This allows the fluids around your eyes to drain easier and keep the puffiness to a minimum.
#6. Slather on the Moisturizer
Moisturizing before bed is something every should do! While you're sleeping, the moisturizer works extra hard to penetrate even the driest of regions. Invest in a thick moisturizer or make your own and slather it on all over your body, but especially your hands in feet. If you can, slip on a pair of overnight gloves onto your hands and wear a pair of socks to really keep in that moisture.
#7. Get Kissable Lips
Before bed, exoliate your lips and follow up with a moisturizing lip balm. Do this for 2-3 nights in a row and you'll have the softest, most kissable lips ever!
