If you're a skin care fanatic like we are, you've no doubt heard of or seen hyaluronic acid. But do you know what it actually is and what it really does? We're here to give you a crash course and tell you the benefits of hyaluronic acid, specifically for the skin. Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a clear substance that is naturally produced by your body.

It is mostly found in the skin, connective tissues, and eyes. The main function of hyaluronic acid is to retain water to keep your tissue moist and hydrated. This acid has many uses and comes in many forms. Some people take it as a supplement, other apply it topically to the skin, while others use it in eye drops. Let's take a look at some of the benefits of hyaluronic acid for the skin!

As we age, our skin tends to loose that moisture and suppleness. This is due to many factors including but not limited to air pollution, genes, smoking, and UV rays. Because of this, our body tends to make less hyaluronic acid, and therefore you're left with dry skin, wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, etc..

Using hyaluronic acid on a regular basis can help by fighting off premature aging as well as other skin conditions.

  • Hydrates and moisturizes the skin
  • Prevents wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reduces redness
  • Helps with dermatitis
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Prevent dryness
  • Keeps skin supple
  • Softens skin
  • Reduces the appearance of dark spots and age spots
  • Plumps skin up
  • Can reverse wrinkles and crows feet

There are two different ways you can use hyaluronic acid to benefit the skin:

  1. Supplements
  2. Serum
  3. Hyaluronic acid fillers

#1. Supplements

You can take hyaluronic supplements on a daily basis. The acid will work from the inside out, hydrating the skin, and reversing the signs of aging. Taken on regular basis for at least a month, hyaluornic acid supplements can make a major difference in your skin. Be sure to consult a doctor though before taking any supplements.

#2. Serum

Possibly the easiest and most popular way to feed your skin with hyaluronic acid is in a serum form. Serums can be purchased at any health or beauty store or online. Simply apply to the skin, focusing on wrinkle prone areas before bed time. Be consistent and apply every night for best results!

#3. Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

These injections are given by a medical professional and are very similar to Botox. Speak to a healthcare professional before getting fillers!
