How to Minimize Pores

By Aniela / December 10, 2016

Large pores on the face can be a total pain in the butt, so in this post, we'll show you how to minimize pores at home, using only natural ingredients. Pores can make you feel less than stellar, making skin look a lot older than it actually is. Large pores also encourage bacteria and acne, so minimizing your pores has many benefits.

What Causes Pores?

The following are just a few of the most prevalent causes of pores:

Sun Exposure:

Exposure to the sun causes skin to shrivel, therefore loosing collagen, the stuff that keeps skin taut and smooth. This collagen loss in turns leads to enlarged pores, shrinking the elasticity of the skin.

Age:

With age, the skin looses elasticity and collagen, therefore causing enlarged pores.

Excessive Oil Production:

Excessive oil production causes dirt, sweat, and other dirt to clog pores. In turn, this causes pores to enlarge.

How to Minimize Pores

#1. Exfoliating

Exfoliating is one of the most important things you can do to minimize pores. Make sure you exfoliate 2-3 times a week (any more and you risk over-exfoliating which can lead to breakouts and dry skin). Exfoliating gets rid of excess oil, dead skin cells, and dirt, which is the number one cause for enlarged pores. Make your own exfoliant and save some money:

#2. Tighten Pores With Natural Ingredients

After exfoliating, make sure to use natural ingredients that contain enzymes which tighten skin and minimize enlarged pores. Lemon juice, cucumber juice, potato, tomato and rosewater are all amazing for minimizing pores. All of these contain enzymes and Vitamin C which combat oily skin, dark spots and acne scars, and therefore tighten the skin, minimizing pores. Rub a lemon, cucumber, tomato or potato all over your face and leave on for 20-25 minutes. You can also apply them before bed and leave on until morning. Or, make your own rosewater and apply all over face and neck daily as a toner.

#3. Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV is a natural astringent and can be used as a very effective and inexpensive toner. Simply mix equal parts water with equal parts ACV in a bottle. Apply all over face and neck using a cotton ball. ACV can be applied every morning and every night before bed. ACV reduces pore size, gets rid of dirt and oil, and prevents breakouts.

#4. Egg White Mask

This egg white mask not only tightens skin and encourages collagen production, but also gets rid of blackheads and minimizes pores. Apply this mask once or twice a week to maximize its benefits.

Exfoliate 2-3 times a week, rub your face with a natural ingredient, apply apple cider vinegar, and do an egg white mask once or twice a week. Within a month, you should see significantly minimized pores!
