How to Make Your Own Lush Bars

I love Lush and everything they have to offer! The smells, the textures, the cuteness of it all – but the price, not so much? Some of these bars can be $12 for just one piece, and for me personally, $12 for ONE bath is a little high. So I've started scouring for DIY Lush recipes, and I've been pleasantly surprised! You get to cut the cost in more than half, it's an exact dupe, and it's actually pretty fun to make! So here's how to make your own lush bars.

How to Make Your Own Lush Bars Tutorial

What You'll Need:

• 1 cup SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, you can get this at most drug stores and online)
• 1 cup baking soda
• 1/3 cup corn starch
• 1/3 cup cream of tartar
• 1/3 cup glycerine
• 1 tablespoon olive oil (or any oil!)
• 1 tbsp water
• Essential oil drops
• food coloring
• parchment paper/wax paper
• rolling pin
• mixing bowls
• surgical mask
• gloves

Ok, ok I know it seems like a lot of ingredients BUT once you have all of these, you can make SO many things and SO many bars!

The Drill:

1. Start by putting on your surgical mask, and, in a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients.
2. In a separate bowl, mix together your wet ingredients.
3. Put on your gloves and mix the dry and wet ingredients together. The texture might feel weird at first, but just keep kneading and the texture will slowly come to life!
4. Now it's time to get creative! If you want a 2 tone bar, split your mixture in half, and add food coloring to each half (or the whole thing) – this is completely up to you!
5. Put down a piece of parchment paper, and start rolling the mixture. If you have different colors, add them on top of one another, making sure to roll each out.
6. Using the parchment paper, start rolling your the dough over on itself (kind of as if you're making a sushi roll!). Keep rolling until it forms a smooth, log like shape.
7. Then, slice your bar just as if you're slicing sushi! Your bars will look so unbelievably cute you won't believe it!

This should yield you about 10-12 bars. But don't forget, you can also just roll these into bath bombs! Keep the extra in an air-tight ziploc bag in the fridge.
