The benefits of this baking soda and coconut oil face mask are immense and we highly recommend you try this mask out ASAP – your skin will glow after the first use!

Baking Soda and Coconut Oil Face Mask Recipe

coconut oil and baking soda

Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiseptic. All of these properties will help heal acne scars and prevent bacteria from forming, therefore preventing the formation of acne and breakouts.

Because coconut oil is also loaded with antioxidants, it is the perfect candidate for those with aging skin as it protects the skin from the damage of free radicals and premature aging.

Baking soda is a natural exfoliant as well as a natural bleaching agent which reduces the appearance of scars, prevents acne from forming, and sloughs off dead skin cells. This will brighten dull skin and give it a beautiful glow, and will also control the over-production of sebum (oil) in the skin.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp coconut oil

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix the baking soda with the coconut oil until well combined.
  2. Apply the mask to cleansed skin and rub in slow, circular motions to remove any dirt, buildup, and dead skin cells.
  3. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes (5 minutes for sensitive skin, and 10 minutes for oily skin).
  4. Remove the mask with a wet and warm washcloth.
  5. Rinse off any leftover residue using cold water to close up the pores.
  6. Use 2-3 times a week to reverse the signs of aging, brighten skin, prevent acne, and reduce the appearance of scars and dark spots.

Is it good for dry skin

Hi Kareena,

If you have dry skin, you should only use this mask twice a month, and be sure to moisturize afterwards as baking soda can be drying!

Can I make a batch of this to use over a period of time or do I have to mix it before each use?

Hi Tania!

You should be able to make a batch and store it as long as you keep any water out of it! Once water gets in, it can get contaminated and therefore go bad. Also, you’ll have to make sure that the coconut oil stays liquid, so keep it in a warm place.

Hi Kamal,

By this, are you referring to skin lightening? If so, it may help to do that since baking soda is a natural lightening agent!

Can you recommend a specific brand coconut oil?

Anything that’s 100% organic and cold pressed will do! Just be sure to look at the ingredients list – it should only state 1 ingredient and that should be cold pressed coconut oil. I use Viva Naturals Coconut Oil which you can find on Amazon 🙂

Will the above face mask really work? Is baking soda good in the skin? Did anybody tried the above mask?

Yes it really does work, especially for those with oily and/or acne prone skin is baking soda is a natural exfoliant. Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory and also great for aging skin since it’s packed full of fatty acids!
