Homemade Lotion for Extra Dry Skin – A DIY Recipe

A little history on the infamous Shea Butter, also recognized as “Woman's Gold”. Derived from fat of the African Nut Tree, native to West Africa, this cream is antioxidant rich and is good for all  types of skin. It works as an anti inflammatory and reduces the appearance of fine lines. It is a light substance that is best when used raw.

Coconut oil is a very common one that is found in almost all of our homes, if not the nearest drug store. The least refined, the better the results as this means that the oil is still pretty full of its vitamins and minerals. Cold pressed organic coconut oil packs a punch against flaky dry hands, feet and everywhere else. This is also a soft substance made from the dried kernel of the coco and pressed together. It has a whole list of benefits for the skin, hair and even insides of the body.

How to:

  1. In a double boiler mix half a cup of Coconut Oil and half a cup of Shea butter.
  2. Once melted, you can add in essential oils for fragrance if you like.
  3. After a few minutes the oils will start to get a bit harder.
  4. Mix thoroughly and quickly until the liquid becomes a thick, creamy substance.
  5. Put it in your desired container and voila!

Use it as often as you please and remember that with this homemade lotion, a little bit goes a long way.
