What is Rosewater?

Rosewater is made by distilling rose petals with steam. It’s very easy to make rosewater, and the benefits are great! Historically, rosewater has been used for thousands of years for beauty recipes, food, drink, and medicinal use as well!

The Benefits:

#1. Soothes Skin

For those suffering from dry, sensitive, or irritated skin, rosewater is a life saver! Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, rosewater can help treat a slew of different skin ailments including eczema and rosacea.

#2. Reduces Redness

If you have redness and uneven skin tone, rosewater can help repair that and bring your skin back to its natural, beautiful tone!

#3. Controls Oil Production

For those with oily skin, rosewater can be a life saver! Acting as a toner, rosewater will balance the skin’s pH, therefore reducing excess sebum (oil) production.

#4. Helps With Acne

Because of its extraordinary anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, rosewater can help those with acne by reducing oil production, killing off bacteria, and preventing future breakouts.

#5. Heals Scars & Burns

Rosewater is excellent at treating acne scars, dark spots, age spots, and burns. It contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties which helps wounds heal faster.

#6. Prevents Infection

Apply rosewater to any cuts, wounds, or breakouts to help fight infection! This in turn will help the healing process go along much faster.

How to Make Rosewater:

Making rosewater is fairly simple – all you need are two ingredients:

  • 7 rose stems
  • 1.5 L distilled water
  1. Start by removing all the rose petals off of the stem and rinse them under warm water to remove any dirt.
  2. Add the petals to a large pot and cover with distilled water.
  3. Over low-medium heat, bring the water to a simmer and cover.
  4. Let this simmer for about 20 minutes or until your water has turned red and the petals have almost lost their color.
  5. Strain the mixture to separate the petals from the water.
  6. Discard the petals and pour your liquid into a glass jar or bottle.
  7. Store in a closed, glass container in the fridge.

How to Use Rosewater:

Simply pour a small amount of the rosewater onto a cotton round and swipe onto freshly cleansed skin.

Alternatively, you can also pour the rosewater into a spray bottle and mist directly onto the skin.
