4 Tricks to Fix Damaged Nails

By Aniela / June 14, 2015

Having your nails done is great and all, but it's actually not so good for your nails. All that nail polish actually blocks oxygen to your nails, and while they may look great while polish ON, once that polish comes off, they're usually quite unpleasant looking, right? So what's a girl to do? Here are 4 tricks to fix damaged nails.

4 Tips to Fix Damaged Nails

#1. Banish Nail Polish Stains

how to get rid of nail stains

If you've been wearing nail polish for a long time without giving your nails a break, chances are that they're stained. To remove nasty nail polish stains from your nails simply mix 1 tbsp baking soda with 1/2 tsp olive oil and a few squirts of a lemon. Rub that mixture onto your nails and let sit for 5 minutes. Stains be gone!

#2. Fix Cracked Nails

Nails that often crack are a sign of low calcium, so make sure you consume the recommended dose of calcium every day OR take calcium supplements. Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment ($20) is a fave of mine when it comes to fixing cracked nails. Although it looks like nail polish, it's not. Just put this stuff on your nails every day for a week and your nails will crack no more!

#3. No More Weak Nails

Nails that break easily need a lot of moisture, so one of the things I love doing is just dipping my fingernails in coconut oil or olive oil for about 15 minutes. Do this every day for about a month (I know it sounds insane but it REALLY WORKS!). Just dip your fingernails in a bowl with an oil of your choice while you watch TV – it's painless!

#4. Get Rid of Bumpy Nails

Got those unsightly bumpy nails? Simply buff them! Grab yourself a buffing block from your local beauty store or even online, and buff your nails with the rough side until they're nice and smooth.

And don't forget – give your nails a much needed break from the polish! Don't forget to share:)
