How to Make Your Own Charcoal Face Wash

By Aniela / October 8, 2015

If you've been considering trying a new face wash, you're in luck today! Charcoal face washes are becoming quickly popular and for good reason too! Charcoal cleansers are extremely good for your skin, and I'll tell you why in just a little bit! But before you head out to the store  and grab one off the shelf, stop! Because I've found the ultimate charcoal face wash recipe. This DIY charcoal face wash is not only amazing for your skin, but also amazing for your wallet. It's fast, easy, cheap, and the ingredients are easy to find! This cleanser is very similar to Lush's Coalface Cleanser. Charcoal is known to purge the skin of dirt and impurities and also an excellent blemish fighter. Use this cleanser once a day, every day, and you'll start seeing clearer skin in just a week!

First, you can find all of these ingredients at your local drug or health food store. The reason this homemade cleanser is so much better for you than the store bought ones is because all the ingredients are natural and organic. Store bought cleansers tend to have a bunch of ingredients that you can't even pronounce, plus they're loaded with drying agents that your skin really doesn't need.

What You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of Organic Coconut Oil (liquefied)
  • 6 Activated Charcoal Capsules
  • 2 Tablespoons of Pure Baking Soda
  • 5 Drops of (preferably organic) Lavender Oil
  • 5 Drops of (preferably organic) Rosemary Oil

Directions:

Grab a small bowl, and very carefully and slowly open up the charcoal capsules into the bowl. This might get a little messy since the capsules are filled with charcoal powder so just be careful! Then, add the coconut oil and baking soda to the charcoal powder and mix. The coconut oil has amazing health properties for your skin, and the baking soda acts as an exfoliant.

Now it's time to add the essential oils. You can pretty much put any essential oil you like in there, but I chose lavender oil for its antiseptic and skin calming effects, while the rosemary oil is loaded with antioxidants and also supports collagen development in skin. Once you've added your oils, mix well, and pour into a container.

You are now ready to use your homemade charcoal face wash!

The charcoal cleanser acts like an oil cleansing method, so don't be afraid if your skin is a little oily after – it's all very normal! Grab a clean washcloth and wet it under warm water. Pat your face with the wash cloth and in slow, circular motions massage the cleanser onto your face. I like to leave mine on for a few minutes, but you can leave it on for as long as or little as you like! Then, wet your washcloth again with warm water and use it to gently remove the cleanser from your face.

I usually follow up with my homemade toner and a good moisturizer.

What's really great about this homemade charcoal face wash is that asides from removing dirt, impurities, and acne, it also acts as an amazing makeup remover so you can completely skip the makeup remover step in your routine!

Try it out today for yourself – you won't regret!
