#1. What Homemade Face Mask is Best for Acne?
For acne prone skin, we recommend all natural homemade face masks that don't irritate the skin. Below, we've shared some of our best and most popular DIY face mask recipes for acne. All of these face masks have been tried and tested not only by our team, but also by hundreds of people who love them!
Of course, as with anything, please be sure to test a small patch on your arm before applying any of these masks on your face. If you incur any sort of allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately.
Recipe #1: Honey & Cinnamon Mask
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- Mix all of the ingredients in a small bowl until it forms into a smooth paste.
- Before applying, make sure to remove all makeup and cleanse face thoroughly.
- Apply all over face and neck and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse off with cold water and pat dry.
- Follow up with a light moisturizer or serum.
- Repeat 2-3 times a week for best results.
Recipe #2: Lemon & Baking Soda Mask
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp honey
- Mix all ingredients together.
- Before apply make sure your face is clean and makeup free.
- Apply to a clean face and neck.
- Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse off.
- Pat dry and follow up with a light moisturizer.
- Repeat 3 times a week.
Recipe #3: Strawberry Mask
- 3-4 strawberries
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Mash the strawberries (remove stem first!) and add honey and sugar.
- For a more paste-like consistency, put the mixture in a food processor.
- Before applying, make sure your face is clean and makeup free.
- Apply all over face and neck and leave on for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse off, pat dry, and follow up with a light moisturizer.
- Repeat 3 times a week.
Recipe #4: Clay Mask
- 1 tbsp bentonite clay
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Mix the two ingredients together using a wooden spoon (a metal spoon will make the clay less effective).
- Apply all over face and neck and leave on for 10 minutes or until mask starts to tighten.
- Gently rinse off using a soft, wet cloth.
- Pat dry, and follow up with a light moisturizer. Repeat 3 times a week.
Recipe #5: Turmeric Mask
- 1 tbsp turmeric
- milk
- To a bowl, add 1 tbsp turmeric, and add enough milk to make a smooth paste.
- Apply to a clean face and neck leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off and

How do You Make a Peel Off Mask at Home?
Making a peel off mask at home is actually easier than you'd think! All you need are just a few ingredients. Peel off masks are great for those who want to exfoliate, get rid of blackheads, and prevent breakouts. Do not use if you have any open sores, very sensitive skin, or have adverse side effects to any of the ingredients. Below, you'll find two different homemade peel off face mask recipes: one with gelatin and one without.
Peel Off Mask With Gelatin
Ingredients:
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp gelatin
Directions:
- In a microwave safe bowl or on the stove, heat up the milk until warm.
- Pour warm milk onto the gelatin and stir for a few minutes until gelatin is completely dissolved.
- The mixture should look like a thick, gooey-like paste (almost like Elmer's glue!).
- Touch the mixture with your finger to make sure that it's not too hot to apply to the face.
- Use a mask brush or your fingers to apply the mask to your face. Make sure to avoid the eye area.
- Leave on for about 30 minutes or until you feel the mask tightening on your skin.
- Gently peel the mask off starting from the chin and going upwards.
- Rinse off any leftover residue and pat dry.
Peel Off Mask Without Gelatin
Ingredients:
- 1 egg white
- 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- tissue paper or toilet paper
Directions:
- In a small bowl, beat the egg white until nice and frothy.
- To that, add a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice and mix the two ingredients well.
- Use your fingers or a face mask brush to apply the mixture all over your face or concentrate on acne prone areas such as chin, nose, and forehead.
- Press 1-ply tissue paper or toilet paper onto the areas and let dry for 10-20 minutes.
- Once time is up, gently peel the tissue away to reveal softer, smoother, and brighter skin!
- Rinse off any leftover residue with warm water and pat dry.
- Follow up with a homemade toner and moisturizer.
- Can be used 2-3 times a week to prevent wrinkles, reduce the appearance of fine lines and acne scars.
How do You Make a Homemade Charcoal Mask?
We get this question often! Homemade charcoal mask recipes are super east, so long as you have charcoal powder or capsules. Once you've got that, the possibilities are truly endless! Below, we've compiled 5 of our best and most popular charcoal face masks that actually WORK! Charcoal face masks are best suited for those with acne prone and oily skin.
Recipe #1: Charcoal & Clay Mask
Ingredients:
- 1/2 tbsp activated charcoal powder
- 1/2 tbsp bentonite clay
- a few drops of vinegar (white or ACV)
- 1-2 drops lavender essential oil (optional)
Directions:
- Mix all ingredients and apply to a clean face and neck.
- Leave on for 10-15 minutes or until mask has dried.
- Wash off with a warm wash cloth and pat dry.
- Not suitable for dry or sensitive skin.
Recipe #2: Charcoal Face Polish
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp white or brown sugar
- 1 tbsp activated charcoal
- 1 tbsp bentonite clay
- a few drops of lavender essential oil
Directions:
- Mix all ingredients together and massage into wet skin in slow, circular motions.
- Leave on for a minute or two and rinse off with warm water.
- Pat dry and follow up with a moisturizer.
- Use twice a week to exfoliate.
Recipe #3: Black Sugar and Charcoal Mask
Ingredients:
- 1 cup black sugar (or brown sugar will do as well!)
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 3 activated charcoal capsules
Directions:
- Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Apply to face and neck and rinse off after 15-20 minutes.
- Pat dry and follow up with a moisturizer.
Recipe #4: Clay & Lavender Charcoal Mask
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp bentonite clay
- 1 tsp activated charcoal powder
- 2 tsp water
- 1/2 tsp raw honey
- 1 drop essential lavender oil & 1 drop tea tree essential oil
Directions:
- Mix all ingredients together and apply to face and neck.
- Leave on for 10-15 minutes or until mask has dried.
- Rinse off, pat dry, and follow up with a moisturizer.
Recipe #5: Coconut Oil & Charcoal Face Mask
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1 tbsp activated charcoal powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
Directions:
- In a small bowl, mix all ingredients together until well combined.
- If you feel that the substance is too thick, add an extra teaspoon or two of coconut oil.
- Mix well so that all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Leave on for 15-20 minutes.
- Remove with a soft, wet washcloth.
- Rinse off any leftover residue and pat dry.
- Repeat twice a week.
