Mayonnaise is particular has been used for a long time to treat a number of hair issues and ultimately leave you with healthy hair. Before we get into these mayonnair hair mask recipes, let's take a look at some of the benefits of mayonnaise for hair!

Benefits of Mayonnaise for Hair

#1. Moisturizes Dry, Damaged Hair

For those with dry, damaged hair, a mayonnaise mask is the perfect thing! Because mayonnaise contains egg yolks, olive oil, and vinegar, it acts as a natural moisturizer and therefore gets deep into the hair follicles to nourish each and every strand. Those with years of damage from dying or over-processing can use a mayonnaise mask to reverse the damage and impart much needed moisture.

#2. Promotes Hair Growth

Mayonnaise contains L-cystine and amino acids, which help to nourish the scalp and therefore promote healthy hair growth. The mayonnaise penetrates the hair shaft and delivers a healthy dose of deep conditioning which in turn promotes healthy hair and growth!

#3. Smooths Frizz

For those struggling to achieve smooth, frizz-free hair, mayonnaise may be your saving grace! With regular use, a good mayonnaise mask can, over time, reduce the amount of frizz and add shine to otherwise dull hair.

#4. Treat Hair Lice

If you're ever in need of a quick and cheap hair lice treatment, look no further than mayo! Covering your entire scalp and hair with lots of mayonnaise will immediately suffocate and kill off any lice.

#5. Conditions

Because it contains amino acids and nourishing oils, mayonnaise works as a deep conditioner. Regular use of a mayo hair mask can deep condition the hair shaft and follicles leaving you with smoother, shinier, and healthier hair.

#6. Treats Dandruff

Because mayonnaise contains vinegar, it helps to balance the scalp's pH and oil production. The leading cause of dandruff is excess oil production and so using a mayonnaise hair mask on a regular basis can soothe the scalp, decrease excess oil production, and unclog hair follicles.

#7. Defines Curly Hair

For those with natural hair and curly hair, mayonnaise is a great ingredient! Because it smooths and deep conditions, mayonnaise will help to define curls and leave hair soft and shiny.

#8. Protects Colored Hair

Mayonnaise helps to protect hair color because it helps to smooth the cuticles and seal in color. This is because colored hair is often damaged and will therefore have open hair cuticles.

How to Use Mayonnaise For Hair

One of the simplest mayonnaise hair mask recipes is using only mayonnaise! This quick and simple recipe can give your hair much needed moisture.

You'll Need:

  2. Massage the mayonnaise gently into the scalp, and work your way out towards the ends.

  4. Rinse out, and use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.

Use this mask once a week for best results.

Alternate Recipe:
