Getting rid of acne is no small feat, and this I know from personal experience. Throughout my teens and early twenties, I suffered from some major cystic acne that I could just not get rid of. I'd tried different antibiotics, prescription creams, and even Proactive, but nothing seemed to work. Enter the wonderful world of the interwebs, which, truth be told, saved my face. After lots and lots of research, I discovered that acne can be treated with much more natural remedies, and that they actually worked! Tea tree oil in particular is an amazing tool with which to get rid of acne, and so I want to share with you the ULTIMATE tea tree oil recipe that got rid of MY acne!
How to Get Rid of Acne With Tea Tree Oil
Before we get into it, I think you should know WHY tea tree oil is so effective at getting rid of acne:
It Kills Bacteria: Tea tree oil is proven to have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. This means that when applied to the skin, tea tree oil has the ability to destroy the bacteria that causes acne in the first place.
It's a Natural Alternative: Unlike benzoyl peroxide which is often prescribed for acne, tea tree oil is all natural which means you don't get the nasty side effects that come with benzoyl peroxide. Although benzoyl peroxide may work a little faster than tee tree oil, it CAN leave you with some very unwanted side effects such as extremely dry skin, peeling, and even scars.
It's Cheap: Aside from the fact that it's all natural AND it works, tea tree oil is very wallet friendly. You can get a bottle of tea tree oil for $5-$10 and this will last you for months. Other prescription creams can cost you quadruple that and don't last nearly as long.
You can use tea tree oil simply as a spot treatment, but just remember to dilute it with some water as it can be very strong and if you don't, you'll end up with very dry skin. Here's my favorite tea tree oil mask to getting rid of acne:
You'll Need:
- 2-3 drops tea tree oil
- 1 tbsp yogurt
- 1 tbsp honey
The Drill:
Combine the above ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Apply to affected areas or over entire face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with luke warm water and pat dry. Always make sure to follow up with a moisturizer!
You can use this mask 2-3 times a week and you should start seeing incredible results within just weeks!
